Why Have I Never Had Freezer Jam Before?

A friend of mine gave me a jar of homemade strawberry freezer jam and showed me the way. It was love at first bite. Cold and refreshing, it reminded me of strawberry sorbet. It’s not for the faint of heart though, it’s very, very sweet, luckily I like sugar. I’m assuming though that when you make it yourself, you can adjust the sugar levels. It’s kind of like a cool science project though because it’s jam that you keep in the freezer, but has the consistency of a sorbet and if you keep it out of the freezer for a few minutes, it melts just like sorbet. So maybe freezer jam is just a way of making a poor man’s sorbet? Whatever it is, it’s good. I’m not going to tell you how to make it in this post, that’s for a later post after I get my lesson on how to make it from this dear friend, but if you have no patience, I’m sure that you can google how to make it. However, here’s a sneak preview on how I’ve consumed it so far.

I took a bite on way my to bed and suddenly realized I wouldn’t be able to sleep until I had more so I slathered bread with lots of butter and topped it with the jam.

The next day I needed more. Out came the crackers, goat cheese, freezer jam and fresh cracked pepper.

The conclusion is that freezer jam is crack. Crack, crack, crack, crack, crack.
