The Redhead Lives Up to Her Reputation
The Redhead. The Redhead. The Redhead. I’ve heard or read about this place three times in the past year and made it a point to finally go since I’m always in the East Village anyway it seems like. Besides, Frank Bruni made this southern-themed restaurant his last review for The New York Times, I guess that’s why the name has always been squawked in my ear. Rather than wait for a table, me and my friend opted to eat at one of the tables by the bar. The drinks were delicious. I highly recommend ‘The Vesper,’ yes, it’s the drink that James Bond drinks (Daniel Craig lists all the ingredients in Casino Royale). The martini was strong and smooth, just like Mr. Craig himself. Cheesy line, I know, I couldn’t help it. We split our entrees which were quite tasty and I would definitely recommend them, the buttermilk fried chicken and the shrimp grits with andouille sausage. What surprised me about the fried chicken was that it was made from white meat, but so juicy. I usually get dark meat, but this did not disappoint. It was so hard to decide what to get because the menu looked amazing. All their words just look so beautiful together, my mouth is watering just thinking about it. You can tell that a lot of thought went into this menu and it wasn’t in vain. When I see a menu like this, I know that not only is the chef talented, but that the chef appreciates food like I do. Will definitely be going back. One must-have when you go though? The Bacon Peanut Brittle. They’re not mind-blowing, but they are very good and what put this restaurant on the map. It would be like going to Hershey Park and not eating any chocolate.
