Rudy’s Bakery in Ridgewood, Queens
Ever venture into Queens? Rudy’s Bakery on Seneca Avenue in Ridgewood has been been around for over 80 years. It’s a German bakery that went through a massive renovation when it came to their menu and shop, with café seating now available. I was so confused when I walked in a while back because it was as if my mind was playing tricks on me and I had to stop and think to myself, ‘Am I going crazy? Did the bakery always look like this and for some reason I can’t remember?’ Ridgewood staples like Italian cookies and Black Forest cake are still around, but now there’s everything from big peanut butter cups and chocolate covered pretzels, to walnut rings and red velvet cheesecake. The prices have also gone up a lot it seems as well. That could either be attributed to the quality of the baked goods, or the gentrification of the neighborhood. If you’re in the hood, check it out or at least stop in to bring some sweet treats home.
