5 Ideas for Oatmeal Recipes
Oatmeal doesn’t have to be boring. Far from it. Those instant mixes always have a variety of flavors, so why not use what you have in your kitchen to create something tasty, different and unique?
Here are five oatmeal ideas to get you started! Isn’t it amazing how different each one looks?
Strawberry & Peanut Butter Oatmeal
I felt like peanut butter and jelly, but not as a sandwich, so I mixed it in with my steel cut oats. And I wanted strawberry jam, so I whipped some up with some fresh strawberries that we had in the fridge.
Easy jam recipe:
For the jam I just quartered a bunch of strawberries and placed them into a sauce pan with some sugar. I put it on medium heat and crushed the strawberries and sugar together till the fruit was a little chunky. Then I just left it alone and let it simmer till I got the consistency I wanted. For the sugar, just keep tasting as you go along. But always start with a little bit because you can always add on, but not take out.
Mixed that in my oats with the peanut butter and I was good to go for breakfast!
Chocolate Cherry Overnight Oats
In a little mason jar, I put in probably ¼ cup of old-fashion oats, ¼ cup of non-fat milk, 1 TBS of non-fat greek yogurt, a small spoonful of unsweetened cocoa powder….aaaand, that’s it. Mixed it up, put it in the fridge. In the morning it was nice and thick. I layered it with freshly pitted cherries and diced banana.
Blueberry Lemon Zest Recipe
I cooked steel cut oats according to the directions (I used water in this picture) and mixed it with half a fresh vanilla bean and maple syrup to taste.
In a small pot I put in a handful of blueberries and gently crushed them with a masher. Right before it boiled, I poured it over the steel cut oats and topped it off with fresh lemon zest.
Savory Steel Cut Oats Recipe
So freaking good. I love savory oats. Cook steel cut oats with water, but keep adding water so that it has more of a porridge consistency, versus how you would normally eat your steel cut oats.
Pour it into a bowl, top with salt, pepper, a pat of unsalted butter and a poached egg. Wow, seeing this pic again makes me want to have it for breakfast in the morning now.
Carrot Cake Oatmeal Recipe
Cook old-fashion oats according to instructions. Here I used water instead of milk. While it is cooking add in some grated carrots, maple syrup, brown sugar and vanilla extract, all to taste.
Serve like that or top with nuts. I had almond slivers in the cabinet so used that.
