Ippudo is Worth the Wait

Ippudo NY has become my favorite ramen house in New York. Word of caution, there is usually a wait, so I suggest that you go in and put your name down, grab a drink at Angel’s Share a couple of blocks away and then head back to the restaurant when time is up. I absolutely hate waiting for tables, but this restaurant is worth the wait. AND! Bonus is that the staff is so nice there, not pretentious at all.

According to their website, Shigemi Kawahara a.k.a. the Ramen King, oversees the Ippudo brand. There are now 43 Ippudo shops across Japan. The NY branch is the first one to be opened overseas. Man, I’m sorry, but I’m getting hungry writing this post now. I can’t wait to go back.

They do not pack up leftovers, so make sure that you only order what you think you can finish.

Akamaru Modern Ramen (and I ordered a soft boiled egg to go with it that was just incredibly beautifully cooked). ‘The original tonkotsu’ soup noodle with Ippudo’s special sauce, pork belly chashu, cabage, kikurage, scallions, miso paste & fragrant garlic oil: This was amazing. It was the best bowl of ramen I have ever had so far. I cannot believe how good their broth and ramen noodles are. The flavors are rich and incredibly delicious, we were attacking our bowls and slurping everything down to the bottom of the bowl. My girlfriend got a spicy ramen, but I have to say, I liked this one much more.

Philly Cheesesteak spring roll. Crispy spring roll filled with beef, onion and melted cheese. This was a really fun dish to eat. It was really good and I’m glad I tried them and I would eat them again, but next time, I’m going to try something new.

Hirata Chicken Wings. Fried chicken wings with Ippudo special black pepper sauce. So good. I really mean it, so good! Nice, light and crispy. It makes want to try any other dish where they have fried chicken.

Shisito. Deep-fried Japanese peppers with yuzu salt. A really great snacking dish, not for those who don’t like hot spicy.

We also had a braised rib that was served with a citrus dipping sauce that I cannot find on their online menu, but it was wonderful.
