Fatty Crab … Eh.
The cocktails at Fatty Crab sound great, but they usually taste pretty bad. The food is decent though. The other night we popped in for post-plate bite at the Upper West Side location and got:
Belly And Shrimp- pork belly, crispy laughing bird shrimp, chili sauce. It sounded like it could be so good, but it was just average.
Chili Crab- dungeness crab, chili sauce, white toast. This was without a doubt my favorite dish of the entire night, really tasty, meaty and I had leftovers to take home and dig into the next night. I love eating crabs, but prefer to have them at home because I really get into it, which means a big mess.
Singaporean Black Pepper Clams. Good, but I expected more flavor, especially since they’re called “Black Pepper” clams.
Bahn Mi. You know what, I can’t remember even which one I ordered, which says something. Just Okay.
End conclusion, Fatty Crab is consistently decent. If I were in the area and couldn’t think of a better place to go to, then I would stop in for a bite. They might have a higher rating if they lowered their prices, just because I don’t think that their food is worth what they charge.
