Tucked away in Fairway market, is a casual cafe that has become one of my favorites NYC lunch spots. I’m talking ’bout the Fairway Cafe & Steakhouse. And those who know me, know that I must really love this place if I’m fighting through all those families with the strollers on the west side to get to the place. And not just the strollers, but also the kids who run into you or in front of you, and their parents are chastising them out loud to make it look like they are reprimanding their child to us bystanders, when really, it does nothing and is pretty much just for show.
Back to Fairway, I’ve had their steak and dinners before, but I’ll stick with their lunches, thank you very much. Some of my favorite things to get are their pizzas, particularly the margherita style or their proscuitto and arugula. And it’s not because it tastes better than the other dishes, but simply because I’m a sucker for fresh pizza. The majority of items on the menu are under $12, the only exception being the skirt steak for $16. And what I love about this restaurant is that I find comfort in that I will never be told that they have run out of something, simply because they are a supermarket and can run downstairs to get whatever they want. And don’t quote me on this, but I believe that they serve Mitchel London cupcakes here. I have to say, they are some of the best cupcakes that I have ever had in my entire life. Whenever I’m feeling naughty I get a couple to go.
